English class 1 - straw power plant vs. windmill

The 17th of December, we went to see a straw power plant on an island in Denmark called Long Island. But first, we went to see a wind mill, and the owner of the mill told us about how it functioned. We were surprised to hear, that it could create power enough for 400 homes, even though it's not a big windmill.

It was exiting to see the straw power plant. They told us that the process is completely CO2-neutral, so it's a great way to create energy without damaging the enviroment. There is no wastage in the process, because the warmth from the burning, is used to heat up water, and is sent to homes on Long Island. When the straws have been burned, it turns into ashes, which is transported to the fields and used as fertilizer. Then new straws are planted, and the circle continues.

We learned a lot from the trip, and we urge everybody to visit a straw power plant as soon as possible. We are planning to visit the place in a near future, because even though they gave a lot of informations, we hunger for more.

We look forward to "CO2" = see you too.     }:o)

  2. It's interesting what you tell us about the straw power plant. Could you post a photo about it, so we get a better idea how it looks like?
    Continue the good work.
